I’ve learned that lesson writing my first book with absolutely no idea how it was supposed to come together. I learned it again while growing my business to seven figures, at the same time life was pulling on me from every direction. And I’ve seen it play out over and over again with founders who come to me frustrated, tired, and quietly questioning whether they still have what it takes.
Why Motivation Can’t Carry You Through the Stretch
Motivation is powerful, but it’s also fickle. It’s that fiery spark, the “hell yes” energy that gets you dreaming big and committing to something bold. But it doesn’t stick around.
It rises and falls with your mood, your energy, your wins, and especially your setbacks. One tough week, one disappointment, one stretch that feels harder than expected, and motivation has a habit of ghosting you.
That’s where most people get stuck. They think something is wrong with them when motivation fades, instead of recognizing that motivation was never meant to do the heavy lifting.

When I was writing my book, motivation helped me imagine holding the finished copy in my hands by the end of the year. But consistency is what got me there. I broke the work into 30-day sprints. I wrote daily without worrying if it was good. At the end of each sprint, I assessed what worked and what didn’t, and then I pivoted if I needed to.
At one point, I threw out 250 pages that weren’t working. No drama. No shame. Just recalibration.

For me, that looks like simple practices that keep me grounded. Daily notes to myself that track wins, losses, and what I need to renegotiate with grace. Time-blocking the top three actions that actually move the goal forward. Weekly check-ins where I ask what worked, what didn’t, and what needs to change.
This is how “I should” turns into “I do.”
This is how momentum quietly rebuilds.
This is how motivation finds its way back, without you chasing it.
